Protecting Your Driving Privilege and Your Freedom

If you are charged with a drunk under the influence or driving while intoxicated, you may be facing serious consequences. Losing your driver's license, increased insurance rates, heavy fines, jail time and the long-term repercussions of having a criminal record are all realistic threats after a DUI or DWI charge.

At The Law Offices of Denise Kirby, we have more than 15 years of experience defending clients who are facing charges for driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI). We represent clients throughout the Kansas City area. Contact our firm online or call 816-221-3691 to schedule your free telephone consultation.

Understanding the Driver's License and Criminal Case

When you are arrested for a DUI or DWI, two legal processes are set in motion simultaneously. Attorney Denise Kirby represents clients in both hearings:

  • The driver's license case — The ability to travel from one place to another is vital. If you do not request a hearing after being arrested for  DUI/DWI, the Driver's License Bureau will automatically suspend or revoke your license. This matter is completely separate form the criminal case.
  • The criminal case — It is important to immediately begin a thorough investigation of your case and the charges against you. After listening to your side of the story, we will review the police report, video tapes and numerous other reports. We also challenge the legality of the arrest, asking questions about the actions of the police officer before and during the arrest.

Although we use similar techniques in each case, every DUI and DWI case is different. By working closely with our clients to understand the specific details of their case, we develop a strong defense to protect our clients in negotiation and in the courtroom.

Losing your license is difficult. One of the most trying parts of the situation is having limited knowledge about the process or the options available. When clients contact us, we explain both processes and make sure you know what to expect at every turn.
